Industrial Energy Audits of Seafood Processing Plants
May 27, 2010 In response to customer demand for environmental sustainability and lower prices, the Alaska seafood industry is broadly seeking to invest in more efficient processing plants as a means to lower their carbon footprint as well as operating costs. Until recently, the Alaska seafood industry has not been focused on energy usage in plant operations. In recognition of this, and in coordination with the increased desire for energy efficiency, AEA has launched an industrial energy audit program to assist the seafood industry to better understand the usage of energy in their plants. This program will help to insure that investment by the seafood industry in energy efficiency is done so effectively. The program has three parts:
- An energy audit kit, to measure power consumption of equipment and provide data to small and medium sized processors.
- An energy audit service for larger processors.
- An energy efficiency section on the MAP website to anonymously publish results of efficiency audits.
