The City of Pelican renovated the 1941 hydroelectric power facilities, including a flume that failed during a major flood event in 2009. The failed flume caused the system to be shut down, which resulted in the cost of electricity being almost tripled while the hydropower was offline. This project completely renovated and upgraded the aging facility into operable status. The renovated facility consists of a 650 kW run-of-river hydropower system that can power the entire community, and became operational in March of 2013.
