AEA and DOT&PF Receive FHWA Approval for FY24 Alaska NEVI Plan

(Anchorage) — The second annual Alaska National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Plan developed by the Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) and the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) has been approved by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). With the approval of the updated plan, an additional $11 million will be available for the installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations throughout the state. This funding is in addition to the $19 million already allocated for fiscal years 2022 and 2023.

AEA Secures $206.5 Million from U.S. DOE to modernize Alaska’s energy infrastructure

(Anchorage) —  The Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) has secured $206.5 million for Grid Resilience and Innovation Partnership (GRIP) Topic Area 3: Grid Innovation through the United States Department of Energy Grid’s (DOE) Grid Deployment Office (GDO). A cost share of 100 percent, or $206.5 million, is required for a total project amount of $413 million. The awarded Railbelt Innovation Resiliency (RIR) project will construct a High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) submarine cable to serve as a parallel transmission route from the Kenai Peninsula to Anchorage, creating a much-needed redundant system in case of disruptive events.

AEA Awarded $1.6 Million in U.S. DOE Funds for Clean Energy Projects in Alaska

(Anchorage) — The Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) was awarded $1.6 million from the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Program through the Office of State and Community Energy Programs at the United States Department of Energy. In addition to this award, AEA will contribute $1.4 million from State Energy Program funds to establish the Renewable Energy Village Energy Efficiency Program (RE-VEEP), making $3 million available for carbon-reduction projects across the state.

AEA and DOT&PF Announce First Round of Alaska NEVI Funding

(Anchorage) — Today at the Alaska Infrastructure Development Symposium, the Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) and the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) announced their first round of awards for National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) funding. AEA and DOT&PF selected projects in nine Alaskan communities for a total investment of $8 million in this round. The $6.4 million in NEVI funding will be matched with $1.6 million from private entities selected to install, own, and operate the new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.

AEA Awarded $25.6 Million for Grid Resilience Formula Grant Program

(Anchorage) — The Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) was awarded $22.1 million for Alaska’s Grid Resilience Formula Grant Program through the Grid Resilience State and Tribal Formula Grants from the United States Department of Energy (DOE). A required state match of 15 percent or $3.6 million was also received for a total of $25.6 million.

AEA Announces $17 Million in Renewable Energy Grants for 18 Statewide Projects

(Anchorage) — The Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) announces that $17 million has been appropriated to the Renewable Energy Fund (REF) program for 18 REF grants, which marks the program’s largest capitalization in a decade. The funding is part of its Round 15 application cycle, in which AEA received applications for a variety of renewable technologies. This funding is effective July 1, 2023, for inclusion in Fiscal Year 2024 budget.

AEA Opens Application Period for Renewable Energy Fund Round 16

(Anchorage) — The Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) is accepting applications for Round 16 of its Renewable Energy Fund (REF) grants to support renewable energy projects and diversify Alaska’s energy portfolio. For Round 16, the maximum grant request is $2 million and $4 million for communities depending on their energy costs. Applications are due by 4 p.m. on Tuesday, August 29, 2023.

AEA Seeks Public Input to Update Alaska’s NEVI Plan

(Anchorage) — The Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) is working with the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) and numerous stakeholders across the state to update the Electric Vehicle (EV) Infrastructure Implementation Plan (The Plan), as required by the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program. Through the NEVI program, Alaska expects to receive roughly $52 million in formula funding over five years to support the expansion of EV charging in the state.

AEA announces Renewable Energy Fund Round 15 recommendations

(Anchorage) — The Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) has completed its evaluation period for Round 15 of the Renewable Energy Fund (REF). On April 5, 2023, AEA presented 27 project recommendations to the Renewable Energy Fund Advisory Committee (REFAC), as required by statute. At the conclusion of its meeting, the REFAC unanimously approved all projects, which have been advanced to the Alaska State Legislature for Fiscal Year 2024 funding consideration, at a total capital request of $25.25 million.

AEA and DOT&PF Release Request for Applications for EV Charging Site Hosts

(Anchorage) — The Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) and the Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) have released a Request for Applications (RFA) to solicit electric vehicle (EV) charging station site hosts as part of Alaska’s EV Infrastructure Deployment Plan (The Plan). The RFA is the first step in initiating Phase 1 of The Plan. Application packages are due back to AEA by May 1, 2023, at 4 p.m.

AEA Closes on $166 Million in Bond Financing for Transmission Upgrades and Battery Storage

(Anchorage) — The Alaska Energy Authority (AEA), the state’s energy office, has closed today on its previously announced $166 million in bond financing to improve the efficiency and deliverable capacity of power from the Bradley Lake Hydroelectric Project. The bonding by AEA, in partnership with the Railbelt utilities, will come at no additional cost to ratepayers or added burden on the State treasury.

AEA Board Approves $4.9 Million Loan for Alaska’s Largest Solar Project

(Anchorage) — The Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) Board of Directors has approved a $4.9 million Power Project Fund (PPF) loan to Energy 49 LLC to convert 45 acres in Houston, Alaska into an 8.5 megawatt (MW)-rated photovoltaic (PV) solar array making it the largest utility-scale PV solar installation in the state.
