On July 17, 2023, the Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) submitted its Notice of Intent to Participate in the Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2023-2024 Diesel Emission Reduction Act (DERA) program. Through this award, AEA secured $1,185,183.00 of new federal funding. AEA will contribute $128,033.34 from the Rural Power System Upgrade Program. Additional funding includes $790,122.00 from the Denali Commission and $269,424.63 from the Volkswagen Settlement Trust, for a total program budget of $2,370,367.00. The project will support the replacement of four diesel engine generator sets in three communities: Chuathbaluk, Sleetmute, and Stony River.
