On March 4, 2021, the Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) submitted the Notice of Intent to Participate in the Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2021 Diesel Emission Reduction Act (DERA) program. AEA’s portion is $506,679 of new federal funding with AEA contributing $168,893 from the Rural Power System Upgrade Program, and the Volkswagen Settlement $337,786 for a total budget of $1,013,358. This project is expected to replace three diesel engines and generators (where needed) in two rural powerhouses.
