Kodiak Electric Association recently installed a third turbine to the existing Terror Lake Hydroelectric Project on Kodiak Island. The addition of the third turbine provides an additional 11.25 MW of power, for a total power plant capacity of 31 MW. Terror Lake is a lake tap with a 193 ft. dam and is expected to generate 124,400 MWh annually, which will displace over 100,000,000 gallons of diesel fuel over its lifetime.

This project helps Kodiak reach its goal to have 95% of their electrical needs supplied by renewable energy by 2020. The project will benefit the city of Kodiak, the US Coast Guard Support Center, and the communities of Chiniak, Pasagshak, and Port Lions.

This project was completed spring 2014.
