The City of Akutan repaired and upgraded the 125 kW Town Creek hydroelectric project that serves the community of Akutan. The original hydroelectric facility was constructed in 1993 and experienced a number of problems making it inoperable. The project included repairs and upgrades to the main dam and three diversion structures, construction of an access road, inspection and maintenance of the hydro turbine, upgrading the system controls and improving the hydro plant integration with the existing diesel plant. The project can generate 775 MWh/yr and displace approximately 39,000 gallons of diesel fuel annually.

Construction of this project was completed in the fall of 2012.
