On March 9, 2020, the Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) submitted the Notice of Intent to Participate in the Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2020 Diesel Emission Reduction Act (DERA) program. AEA’s portion is $491,217 of new federal funding with AEA contributing $163.739 from the Rural Power System Upgrade Program, and the Volkswagen Settlement $327,478 for a total additional budget of $982,434. This project is expected to replace five diesel engines and generators (where needed) in three rural powerhouses.
